Albert Samuel Martinelli

The child of Alfred Martinelli and Elizabeth ?

He was born:- about 1855 ~ 56 "No certificate" In 1877 he was a Butchers assistant. At 10:30am 11th December 1877 aged 22 years 4 months he enlisted in the British Army {Army Service Corps} at Westminster. service number 1699 signing on for 12, years. He was 5ft 3½" tall, of Dark complexion with Blue eyes and Brown hair, his religious denomination was Church of England. On the 22nd October 1879 he arrived at his station in Dublin. See war records. In 1880 he is noted as a Commissary Butcher in the Army on his 1st marriage certificate in Dublin, Ireland. In 1881 he is noted as a Butcher, on his 1st sons birth certificate, and medical records show that he was in hospital for 8 days in November 1881, in Ireland. Army Records show he returned to London in April 1884. In 1885 he is noted as a Hatter, on his 2nd marriage certificate, and it is said worked in Luton, Bedfordshire. On the 12th December 1889 he enlisted into section "D" 1st Class Army Reserve for 4 yrs, as Private (Lance Corporal) In the 1891 census he is listed as a Fitter’s labourer aged 34, and living at: - 195, Chatham Avenue, Hoxton. with his wife and five children In 1892 he is noted as a Journeyman Hatter, on his daughters birth certificate. On the 12th December 1893 his period of engagement in the Army ended. From the marriage certificate of Charles William Martinelli to Louisa Jane Foll we know that in July 1910 Albert was a School Caretaker and lived at :- 221, Wick Road, Homerton, London. He died on Thursday 1st October 1931 aged 75, at 2, Sidney Road, of broncho pneumonia and was buried on 6th October 1931 in a Public Grave at the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Langthorne Road, London. no gravestone exists, his home address when he died was 65, Holly Street, Dalston, London.
{"Sidney Road" was renamed and is now called "Kenworthy Road", just off Wick Road.}

Double marriage’s where still quite common during that time even though civil marriages had been introduced in 1837, They superseded "Hardwicks Marriage act of 1754" which had made a Roman Catholic marriage Invalid.

Roseabella Martinelli { née Connolly }

The child of Edward Connolly and ? see page* It is believed she was born in Dublin, Ireland. about 1863 her father was a chemist and it is said her mother was a midwife, Rosabella may have had two brothers William Connolly. and Frederick ConnollyIn 1891 the census shows that she was living at 195, Chatham Avenue, Hoxton New Town, Shoreditch. with her husband and five of her children. {"Chatham Avenue no longer exists but it used be to just off Nile Street"} She died on Saturday 19th September 1931, aged 68. { possibly of a stroke 11 days before her husband.} She was buried 24th September 1931 in the same public grave as her husband at the St. Patrick's Catholic cemetery, Langthorne Road, London. no gravestone exists, Her address when she died was 65, Holly Street, Dalston, London.
